This is our second show (see video below) of the documentary photography of Henry Horenstein. Animalia
is the name of his latest book, which features photographs of
terrestrial and aquatic life forms from zoos and aquariums that he has
made over the years. Honky Tonk (a book now out of print) shows
the people, from common folks to stars, who form much of the country
and western culture; this series was made in the 1970s. Both series of
incisive imagery are wonderfully creative and humorous, with some of it
bordering on the surreal, not just of the animals, but also of the
people.
Henry Horenstein (born 1947) is a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has authored more than 30 books, been in numerous shows and is included in a number of prominent museum photographic collections.
