| Dolly's first hit was "Dumb Blonde" in 1967, but she soon proved she was anything but. She worked in the popular Porter Wagoner band from 1967 to 1974, then moved on to multiple careers in music, film (9 to 5), and business (Dollywood, the theme park). Her musical style went pop and her show became more Vegas than Nashville, and she continued writing hit songs, including "I Will Always Love You," recorded by Whitney Houston in 1992. Today, Dolly has returned to her roots, singing and writing traditional music in a simple, unadorned style, which most feel best shows off her considerable talents. |
