James
Baker (b. 1951) lives in Oregon and was raised in New England. He
attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he was fortunate
enough to study under Aaron Siskind, Harry Callahan, Minor White, and
Lisette Model. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1975.
Shortly thereafter, he was teaching at the University of Texas/Dallas,
and
I got to know him. In 1986, he became the Photography Program Director
at the renown Anderson Ranch Arts Center near Aspen, Colorado for ten
years. While there, he also had a Colorado regional NPR program All About the Arts,
featuring interviews with prominent artists, filmmakers, writers, and
poets. After Colorado, he held administrative positions at schools on
both coasts. All this time, he was creating images with his 4 x 5 view
camera. ______________________________________________________________________
